Half Cross Stitch
(is half of a common Cross Stitch)

This refers to a stitch used when more delicate work is being executed. Normally the stitch is applied to panels and pictures. It is not recommended for floor carpets, as it does not have the same durability that other specific stitches for carpets offer.

The rows are started from left to right, with the needle working in a vertical position, from top to bottom, as shown in Fig. No. 1, carrying from one stitch to the next.

The RETURN row is also performed with the needle held in a vertical position, but, this time, from bottom to top, as shown in Fig. No. 2.
