ALTERNATED CROSS STITCH.

This stitch is very often used in the manufacture of carpets, panels and cushions because of the pretty appearance of very small flowers it gives to embroidery.

Begin with an ordinary Cross Stitch, then follow the Graph from No.1 to 5, stitching the first row, and from No.6 to 10 on the return stitching of the row. It must be understood that the FIRST row will continue to the end and the RETURN row will end at the start of the work.

The needle changes its position from the horizontal to the vertical as shown in the graph. It is important to observe that the result of the work is always a separate cross stitch which forms a row on top of a row giving the effect of small flowers.
